Classroom Environment
Students spend the majority of their day in a classroom. That is why the environment should be a place that is welcoming and inviting and that inspires learning. My classroom setup has been inspired by the Reggio Emilia approach. In my view, teachers values, image of the child, aesthetics, collaboration, active learning and transparency all play a vital role in structuring a classroom. All of these components work hand in hand to create an inviting and light filled environment that promotes collaborative and simulating learning for the children.
Seating Arrangements
The student's seating arrangement should be setup in a way that allows students to be able to view the teacher and other peers. An effective way to do this is by putting the desks in a u-shaped for. This will allow each student to be able to see one another through discussions.
Library Setup and Reading Area
It is essential to invite a literacy environment because it will welcome and encourage literacy in the classroom. In my view, it is essential to advocate the books in a very appealing manner. In order to make the reading environment comfortable, I would like to include sofa, been bag chars, mats, and pillows. Here are some more idea of reading areas in a classroom
Literacy Wall
Including a literacy wall in a classroom, allows students to expand on his or her vocabulary. It is a great way for students to learn more words and to become emerging readers.
Daily Schedule
The daily schedule allows students to remember important transitions throughout the day. These are quite useful in helping students organize themselves as well as building effective routines.
Light
Light is another element that is important to consider when setting-up a classroom. Light encompasses us in many ways. Creating a light-filled classroom will brighten the ambiance. In order to achieve this brightness, having blinds or shutters open to let in direct sunlight as well as including mirrors to reflect light.
