Inclusive Education
In my view, inclusive education is integrated in regular classroom settings to improve educational opportunities and social development and to give all students equal opportunities.
Personal Experience
I have had the pleasure of working with a 5 year old autistic child in a kindergarten classroom. In order to accomodate his needs, I differentiated my lesson plans. To help this student succeed, I made sure to use visuals. I consistently went over the classroom schedule and routine and I integrated activities which involved peer interaction.
Classroom Strategies
1. Adapt the number of items the learner is expected to learn or complete
2. Adapt time allotted for students to complete a task effectively
3. Give more personal assistance to specific learners (i.e assign peer tutors with additional support when needed)
4. Adapt how instruction is given to a learner (i.e. visual aids, hands-on activities, and place students in peer groups.
5. Accommodate how the learner approaches an activity by adapting the skill level, equipment, or the rules (i.e. simplify rules and instructions)
