Diagnostic Assessment
Diagnostic assessment (pre-assessment) is important to me because it enables me to check student's prior knowledge and skill levels, identify student misconception, profile learner's interests, and reveal learning style of preference. The information that is provided on diagnostic assessments will serve as a tool to assist teachers on developing and planning instructional strategies that benefit and support learning for students.
Formative Assessment
Formative assessment is by far the most important type of assessment because it enables teachers (and students) to document progress in learning. Ongoing assessments provide specific feedback to teachers and students for the purpose of guiding teaching to improve learning.
Some types of formative assessments that I would like to include in my classroom are the following: ungraded quizzes, oral questioning, teacher observations, draft work, think aloud exercises, student-constructed concept maps, learning logs, and portfolio reviews.
I would also like to include rubrics and checklists. This will help students to understand the goals of an activity and or an assignment. It is a fantastic way to guide students learning.
